The Savegre Mountain Hotel, also known as Cabinas Chacón, is located in San Gerardo de Dota, a small community in the Talamanca mountains in the midst of a precious ecosystem... Here you will find a deep cloud forest filled with massive oaks and other native species. The woods serve as a sanctuary for a large number of mammals and innumerable species of insects, amphibians, amazing plants and colorful birds, a paradise for birdwatchers.
Rainbow trout abound in the Savegre River which is great for fly fishing. The Chacón Family not only have developed this wonderul hotel, but have over the course of the years take advantage of the crisp weather to grow apples, plums, and peaches, and rainbow trout. Over 170 bird species have been observed in the area and its multiple hiking trails in the Cloud Forest. This is known as one of the best places in the country to observe quetzals, who live here year around The Hotel hosts the Quetzal Education Research Center Complexwhich you sample in meals. Don Efraín Chacón and his family arrived here in 1954 and were the first cooperative venture between the Chacón
Family and Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma. In the midst of exuberant tropical cloud forest and bounded by beautiful gardens with colorful flowers sorrounded by hummingbirds, you find our comfortable fine facilities. Our rooms are equipped with heating systems, private bath with hot water, comfortable beds, and all the amenities from first class service.

How to get there: Using the city of San José as a reference point, take the Florencio del Castillo Highway to the Southern Interamerican Highway, Route 2. From there, drive through the beautiful high mountains of fog-shrouded Cerro de La Muerte, highest pass on the Interamerican Highway, until you reach kilometer 80, where you take a detour to the right for 9 kilometers on well-maintained country road, finally reaching the slopes of the Savegre River - your tranquil destination.
