Sarapiqui Rainforest
Mother Nature puts on an amazing song and dance at Sarapiquí, where birds whistle elaborate tunes, rivers whisper and the forest hums teeming with wildlife. Located in Costa Rica’s northern plains, the area is a world of its own where climate changes and refreshing humidity fills the air producing a green landscape enhanced by the textures of millions of tress and plants.
Route 32 takes you there but also leads you through Braulio Carrillo National Park where imposing mountains meet low clouds in picture perfect combinations. The rainforest turns into cattle ranches and agricultural farms planted with pineapple, heart of palm and banana, the region’s staple crop.
However, Sarapiquí’s true passion is ecotourism. Its namesake river and surrounding mountain welcome adventurers seeking the thrill of levels II-IV rapids, rides on safari boats, canopy tours and hiking through unspoiled ecosystems.
